‍April 17^th – Lesson’s Learned, A Rant, and the Catch 22 We’re In

It is April 17th, 10:00 at night, and I realized that we forgot to shoot our development update video so I wanted to shoot this for you all and give everyone an update on what we’ve been up to the last couple weeks.

So, the biggest change we’ve seen since taking more initiative on Marketing is the focus on very specific cities. We’ve been seeing a lot of interest in Chicago preceptors. I’d say right now we’re seeing a ton of interest in Atlanta, D.C., Maryland, Miami, and Chicago. Those are the four or five largest cities that students are reaching out to us about clinical placements and preceptors.

It clear students need support there, and this is where we’re starting. What interesting, most students are requesting Primary Care more than Women’s Health or Pediatrics. I initially thought it would be the opposite.

Lesson Learned: Focus on these cities. And stop assuming!

More importantly…I don’t know if I should say this or if I’m allowed to say this, it’s kind of from the same five or six schools.

For any university staff reading this: START DOING A BETTER JOB!

You know who you are: Chamberlain University, Olivet, Walden, South University, and Southern Alabama. You guys need to step up your clinical program. And I really do sincerely mean this; it is your responsibility to help students find clinical rotations. It should not be the student’s responsibility.

Lesson Learned: Students from the same 5-7 schools are consistently reaching out to us.
I know sometimes I can go on a little bit of a rant. The truth is I really do believe that the universities should be helping students find clinical placements.

It just doesn’t make any sense to me.

We’ve worked with MD students, PA students, nurse practitioner students, DO students, international medical students, and NPs are the only ones that are this underserved.

I just don’t understand.

I know the current placement process is a product of the past. But, times have changed and the Nurse Practitioner Master’s programs are growing at an exponential rate.

More and more NP students are going back to school for their degree, and the universities need to the support them by finding and scheduling their clinical rotations.

This is possible. Universities can take this responsibility on! We are getting new preceptor enrollments almost daily, and we don’t have a universities endowment behind us.

Other than that, we’ve been doing a lot of work right now in Chicago trying to grow out that program.

We just added two new women’s health rotations and a new pediatric rotation as well. We’re super excited about that. It should be great for our students.

I think one is located near O’Hare Airport in 60641, and the other one is located in 60631.

The Catch 22 We’re Currently In

This initiative of scheduling student placements and partnering with universities has been a little bit of a challenge.

On one hand, on a daily basis, we’re working with universities, helping them grow out their clinical program, re-educating them on the system that is going to require from them, how we can help them, what they need to be doing for their students.

On the other hand, on a daily basis we have our amazing nurse practitioner students asking us for placements, and enrolling on our website If you’ve already done that, you know we try to get back to you within the day to make sure that if our students have some quick deadline, we’re responding to them ASAP.

A student reached out to me last like two Fridays ago and she wanted to start on Tuesday. And then, you know, we were like “Are you serious? We’ll do it, we’ll help you. But, it’s gonna be tough”. She’s actually starting with us six weeks when her next class starts.

But, guys it is a fun journey so far. It is tiring. It’s rewarding because we know we’re the only ones in the space trying to make this type of change. It’s difficult, obviously, because there’s just a lot of work that needs to be done.

I’m sure you all can relate.

We want to support students in the short term but we also want to actually change the way the system works in the long term.

When we’re doing one, we’re not doing the other. But that’s just a little bit of a rant.

All in all, we love the work that we’re doing. You future nurse practitioners rock.
